Independent human trials with laser-assisted immunotherapy for advanced cutaneous meloma have shown that the method is well tolerated and effective. In the first trial 14 patients were treated with laser-assisted immunotherapy, with very promising results.
Naylor et al. (2006) presented a case study where two patients were treated with laser assisted immunotherapy. Treatment was carried out over a 6 week cycel with topical application of 5% imiquimod twice-daily over the full 6 week cycle, and with laser treatment on week 2 and 4. The two patients had late stage melanoma; Patient 1 (stage IV) had primary tumor and metastases on the left arm, and metastases in both lungs, and Patient 2 (stage IIIC) had neck and head melanoma, with multiple local metastases. All tumors resolved after the treatment, including the untreated metastases in the lungs of patient 1.
